Larry Langford Sentencing

Larry Langford has entered the federal courthouse in Tuscaloosa where he will be sentenced this morning.Langford’s sentencing hearing begins at 9:30 a.m. His wife, Melva, is already in the courtroom.A federal jury in Tuscaloosa convicted Langford in October on 60 counts including bribery, fraud and money laundering related to his time as Jefferson County Commission president. Prosecutors are asking for a sentence of 24 to 30 years, $241,843 in forfeiture and that Langford pay $119,985 in back taxes to the Internal Revenue Service.The decision of Judge Scott Coogler is in: Former Birmingham mayor Larry Langford has been sentenced to 180 months in prison (15 years). 

 Mr. Langford will have to report on April 5, 2010 at noon to start his sentence. He will have to wear an ankle bracelet, and not leave Jefferson County while he prepares to serve his sentence
