Private-sale sites like Gilt, Rue La La and One Kings Lane have sprouted across the Web, offering big discounts on brand-name goods to “members” — anyone who wants go through the simple step of registering for these free services.
Many of these private-sale companies are now trying to extend the same model to travel deals. In the last few months, both Rue La La, a division of GSI Commerce, and the Gilt Group, with a new site called Jetsetter, have begun posting big discounts for luxury hotel rooms at popular vacation spots.
